8 Weeks To A Swimsuit by Arlinda Christine

In March of 2020, after our governor announced a "Stay At Home" order because of Covid-19, I signed up with a local trainer who was offering an online workout program live on Facebook. I figured I could support a small business and maybe this would help me lose the weight that I had been carrying for years.

The end result was me discovering parts of myself that I never knew existed even though they were always present. As of this moment I have lost nearly 50 lbs and I have never felt or looked better. My days are now filled with at least 1-2 workouts, healthy meals and encouraging others that if I can lose the weight, you can too.

Happy Thanksgiving 🍁

Today we are thankful for so much. 🙏🏾

Our life.
Our health.
Sufficiency.
Another day.
The selflessness of others.
The kindness of others.

Today we pray for so many who

Are in the hospital.
Are mourning the loss of loved ones.
Are essential workers.
Are missing the community of church and family.
Are brokenhearted.

Today we know that

We should have an attitude of gratitude.
That if we look back over our lives and think things over,
God has always provided.
If we can't thank Him for this, we can thank Him for that.
In all things give thanks.

New eBook Release!!! #hespoilsme

Sometimes you can find love at an inconvenient time in your life.

It's both magical and annoying.

Soul searching and reflective.

Demanding and rejecting.

Later, you realize that it wasn't love.

Rather, the illusion of it.

Only illusions are painful.

Collective Resilience

Last night when Quiera posted in the group chat about the passing of Chadwick Boseman, I honestly went to Google to see who she was referring to because it couldn't have been The Black Panther. It just couldn't be him. It just couldn't be another incredible loss for us. Not right now. It just couldn't be. After settling into the reality of this loss, I went directly to YouTube to find an episode of Black Jeapordy that makes me laugh every time I see it like it's my first time seeing it. I needed to laugh last night.

2020 has been a year of unimaginable loss, sickness, destruction, brutality, disappointment, isolation and gratitude. Yes, gratitude. Through our collectives losses we have shown collective resilience. From Kobe to Covid, to George, to Breonna, to Ahmad, to Jacob, and now to Chad. It's been hard, sad and tearful and yet we show up for each other, whether it's 6 feet apart with our masks on, on Zoom for a meetup or on social media just trying to make sense out of everything . And it's so much at one time to try to make sense of.

Resilience. An ability to recover after being stretched. We come from ancestors who endured and survived many adversities. We not only honor that, we also have to acknowledge that we carry that resilience within ourselves too. Maybe we never knew it was there until now. There's a meme that suggests that we check on our strong friends, we are honestly at the point where we need to check on each other often and gently with loving kindness. Many of us are not well and it seems that each unexpected blow hits harder and harder. It's leaving us to question so many things, like our faith and God, and still not have an answer for any of it.

Yet, I offer this. 2020 was slated as the year of vision. It's been hard to see through everything that has come at us but just maybe this is the year to hone in on our purpose while we are still living. To put the seeds in the earth, through our pain, heartache and discomfort, that will honor our legacy. Maybe 2020 is that year where we are stretched uncontrollably beyond our comfort zone to ultimately realize the resilience that lies within us.

Wow! Is about all that I have right now. I spoke this past Saturday for a women's ministry and last night I was live on FB discussing the School To Prison Pipeline. The experiences have been awesome and I'm so thankful for this moment to do what I love and to discuss issues that matter to me.

10 Day Grace Challenge (Woman Evolve 20 Virtual Experience)

On Saturday, at the close of Woman Evolve 20 Virtual Experience, Pastor Sarah Jakes Roberts gave us a ten day challenge. The challenge was to write down every time we see God’s grace in our lives.

As she was ministering to us, I was inspired to create a journal to assist women on this 10 day challenge. Download it today.

If I can’t see what God is doing, then I need to start looking for grace. Because wherever I find grace, I’ll see God. ~ Pastor Sarah Jakes Roberts

Ghetto Chick Is On Sale On Amazon!!

This week has been super exciting!!! On June 30 Ghetto Chick was released in eBook format on Amazon. It tells the story of the point in my life where after a failed marriage I entered into a relationship that resulted in even more heartache. Through that brokenness, in 2008, I began to write and journal. During that time http://www.lindarinsights.blogspot.com and Ghetto Chick were birthed.

I’m so humbled by the response to it. When I finished writing Ghetto Chick, I had no idea what to do with it. I put it on a site to sale with a stock book cover and I just left it there. As I learned more about graphics I created the current cover and I knew that I was getting closer to what I wanted to achieve for my first book. A chance scroll on Instagram in May landed me in a two day course about making eBooks. After the first class I was already formatting the book. The interior reflects the beauty of the writings and the beauty of the cover.

I hope that when you receive your copy that you experience words of heartache, love and the desire of a woman, who after a failed marriage, while raising two incredible sons desired more and kept pressing despite the obstacles.

If I’ve learned nothing else in this process, I’ve learned that I was created for more. Check it out!!!!

And At Midnight ~ The Ghetto Chick eBook Release

This moment right here is more than exciting. I'm awaiting for Ghetto Chick to drop on Amazon at midnight and I am so full of emotion. Just thinking that the book that started my journey to writing and self-publishing is coming forth in 2020. I had plans for this book to come out but not like this.

I'll never forget my excitement, sitting and watching a webinar on creating an eBook and how afterwards I began to work immediately on the Ghetto Chick eBook. While I am no longer in the space of darkness and heartache that I was in when I wrote this book, I'll never forget how that pain and brokenness brought forth gifts that I didn't even know existed within me. Sometimes God has to break us to make us. This will also be the forth book that I have on sale, under my publishing company LindarInsights Publishing LLC,  since suffering a stroke in 2018.

My prayer for Ghetto Chick is that it speaks to another woman and she's blessed by my honesty and transparency. If this book blesses one woman then it was all worth it.

Be Safe. Be Blessed. Be Encouraged.

Self-Care Saturdays ~ Get Still

This morning I thought about how my mom would always tell us to get still when we were little. We were busy little people. I can only imagine that my mom wanted us still so that she could have a moment of peace.

Often we want people to get still. What happens when we get still ourselves?

Here lately my mind has been racing with all of the things going on in my life, in our country and ideas that I need to get out on paper. One evening I went for a walk and I came back and sat on my porch. As I sat there I thought maybe I should get my laptop or maybe I should finish the book that I'm reading and God said, "Just sit still. Do nothing." I looked out from my porch and I saw the trees swaying in the wind, the beauty of the sun going down and children riding their bikes up and down the street.

I sat still and realized that more often I need to say to myself, "Get still. Do nothing." Even if for a moment.

As you go about your day, take moments to be still, to calm your mind.  Listen to what God wants to tell you, listen to the wind blowing, listen to the laughter of those that you love and in that moment, just be.

Be well. Be blessed. Be encouraged. All things are working together for your good.

PreOrder Ghetto Chick On Amazon Today!!

I’m so excited to share the release date for Ghetto Chick. Midnight, June 30, 2020.

You can preorder today on Amazon.

Ghetto Chick eBook Release June 2020

Ghetto Chick is a book of poetry and writings that I wrote in 2009, after my failed marriage and entering into a relationship way too soon after my separation.
In that relationship, I was encouraged to learn about the business of self-publishing. Eventually the relationship took different turns which prompted me to grab a notebook to begin writing about my experiences.
The title, Ghetto Chick, actually came out of a heated discussion where I responded, "You don't want a nice girl. You want a ghetto chick." Hence the title was birthed.
Ghetto Chick is some of my most honest thoughts of a woman, who was left by her husband, while raising two beautiful brown boys, taken for granted by her lover and yet she still sought after God through the hurt, the pain and the discouragement.
So, why now? Why release Ghetto Chickin 2020, eleven years after it was written? The most honest answer is, because it's time. Ghetto Chickrepresents so much. It's my first self-published book. It's the soundtrack to my book Infused. It will be my first book that I create in digital format. In essence, Ghetto Chick is my baby, it's my heart. It was the beginning of me having the courage to speak my truth. I didn't know that then. I truly realize it now.
I'm looking forward to sharing a part of me that was so broken over a decade ago that it led me to writing and to following my dreams. I can't wait to share the beautiful digital Ghetto Chick eBook with you.

Fat Flush Water ~ Be Well

Today I cut up some fresh fruit and added water and used that as my beverage for today. I think I'm currently finishing my 5th or 6th bottle of water.

My trainer calls this fat flush water. It consists of 1/2 slice of grapefruit, a slice of orange, a slice of lemon, a slice of lime, two sprigs of mint and a couple of slices of cucumber.

My son wanted to try it too. His water simple has oranges and mint.

Enjoy!!!!

Be Well & Stay Home!!!

I made this image for no other reason than to show my love for numbers. Once I realized today's date I had to create an image for it. These number have so much in common. They are all even. They all have a zero. Notice the pattern with the all of the zeros and the number four and the three number 2s. The pattern goes diagonal and then vertical.

I love numbers. 💞 💞

Damn It Spencer ~ Excerpt From Infused

Damn It, Spencer

“Auntie, I believe that your self-esteem is low and that your self-confidence is shot. I’ve never seen you like this over a man. Do you hear what he says to you? Do you read the texts? He told you to die in your sleep, and that you were dumb and stupid. Come on, now. What do you see in him? He needs to leave you alone. Tell him to go.”
Lindar couldn’t take anymore of Spencer’s bantering.
“Okay! Okay! Spencer, I hear you!”
“No, I don’t think you do. I believe Cajun has a hold on you. Ain’t he from Louisiana? Have you seen Eve’s Bayou? Maybe we should watch that …. and that other movie.”
Lindar prayed silently, Lord, give me the strength to not cuss my niece out! She is working on my negative nerves. I know she means well, but goodness gracious! Does she ever stop?
“Do your hear me, Lindar? The movie about the serpent and…and…and…”
“The rainbow, Spencer! The Serpent and the Rainbow!”
“Okay! We need to watch those movies. Maybe we can figure out why he treats you so bad. But then, we need a movie to see why you allow him to treat you the way he does. We need a Terry McMillan movie for that.”
As if she had come up with the perfect thought, she chimed in, “I know, Lindar! We can watch Disappearing Acts. The one with Sanaa Lathan and somebody.”

Never Lost

Years ago, I bought a Hurricane Scrubber from Target. One day after using it someone misplaced the adapter used to charge it. That was around 2017/2018. 🤦🏽‍♀️ I've looked high and low for this adapter and finally decided that I would buy a replacement for it. I located it to purchase on both the Amazon and the Walmart websites. Though I never ventured out to buy it for some reason. Maybe the universe knew what would happen in due season.

Since being at home I've learned some huge lessons. I've learned that I can cook several meals a day and be happy while doing it. I've learned that I love helping my son with his online learning and I've learned that somethings that we look for are never lost.

As I ventured to clean out my walk-in closet one day, which has been a chore for years, I came across a box of books for children that I had finally decided to give away. I pulled the box out and guess what I found? The adapter. The adapter to my bathroom scrubber was in my walk-in closet. The adapter that I have been looking for for nearly three years. Hmmm...

I thought about the energy that I used to go online to find another one and the days that I spent looking for something that wasn't lost at all. Instead it was put away incorrectly. Truth be told, the adapter should always be with the scrubber because the scrubber can't work with out it. Had I put it up correctly I wouldn't have had to search for it.

During this stay at home order, I'm learning a lot. One being that most of the things that I'm looking for, I already have and that sometimes you have to let go of things that no longer serve you in order to find what was always there all along. (I feel like that's a word for someone in this season. Stop seeking what's already there. EKOC 🏃🏾‍♀️💨💨)

Even When You Don’t Feel Like It

In Ohio we are going into week 3 of our state's "Stay At Home" initiative. It hits me today that my regular routine of beginning my days have been so off. Early this morning I saw a video by Eric Thomas that talked about getting up and going about your day in the manner that you normally would.

As I sat and watched the video, I realized that I have not even touched my makeup bag in almost three weeks. Like many moms I'm juggling several things all at one time. After watching the video I awoke with a renewed mindset to do those tasks that I'd become accustomed to every morning. I reached for my bag and applied a simple nude eye and some Fenty Gloss Bomb. Can I mention this on a site that discusses ministry? Yep! Nearly all of my saved girlfriends wear makeup, so it's ok.

Though this isn't simply about makeup. This is about continuing to be ourselves and doing those things that we routinely do, even when we don't feel like it. Over the course of the day we are teaching, cooking, praying, watching the news and checking in on love ones.

Sis, don't forget about yourself. Think about your daily routine. Are you sticking with it? Have you let some things go, while you hold the fort together? Take those moments to take care of you too.

Hope You Had A Fab Friday!!!!!

In All Things Give Thanks

It's a Thankful Thursday!!! What are you thankful for today? Even in trying times and difficult circumstances it's so important to find something to be grateful for. It helps you to see the good and not focus on all of the negative things.

Just take a moment and jot down three things, or more, that you're grateful for. Make this a daily habit. I love looking back through my gratitude journal and seeing all of the things that I have been grateful for over the past days, weeks, and months.

Remember, in all things give thanks.

Werk It!!!

In my bedroom I have the cutest pink and purple weights. It is a set of 3lbs and 5lbs and they have gone unused for years. At least until last week. Last week, I signed up for a 6-week online fitness course with Denise Bryers. I have admired Denise's ability to assist people on their journey to becoming more fit via social media. I saw the videos of her Boot Camps and the many testimonials and was always so excited for her growing business.

When she offered the online class, I knew this was an opportunity for me to experience her as a trainer and to get some work in. I haven't worked out with anyone in well over a year and I was kinda elated and I'm an introvert, so this really works for me.

In the beginning, I got off to a slow start. After a class or two I was exhausted and though I wasn't going to give up, I wasn't excited about how tired I was either. Recently after a workout she told us that since we couldn't leave our homes this was a time for us to work out twice a day, focus on our meals and focus on ourselves. She also told us, "You signed up for this!" "You signed for two workouts a day Monday thru Thursday and one on Saturday." I felt that energy coming through my screen. I translated it as, "Sis, you paid your money to commit to this. It's time to see it through."

That message sat with me and on this morning, for the first time ever in my life I was up for a 7:15 a.m. workout and I was ready at 6:15 p.m. for the next one. Look at God!!! Am I sore? Yes. Am I exhausted? Yes. Will I be up at 7:00 in the morning? Yes, I have work to do.

And those cute weights are no longer neatly placed under by bed. They are strategically placed in my workout area.

Take Charge ~ Do What You Were Born To Do

This time that we have right now will really have you reflecting on some stuff. Am I operating in the purpose that I was brought to the earth for? Am I using my gifts? Am I doing all that I can for the people that I love and my community.

Am I pouring into others or allowing my bucket to be full just for myself? As a matter of fact How Full Is Your Bucket? is an excellent book to read in the next week or two.  The flip side is that if you don't have others pouring into your bucket then your bucket is empty and you are depleted. You can't pour from an empty bucket. There's nothing there.

There are several things that we can do while we are at home.
  1. Clear the clutter. ~ We can't think clearly with a whole bunch of stuff that we are trying to hold on to. Trust me, I know. I spent the evening in my closet. Honestly, I don't need to shop for a long time for anything and I really don't need another black piece of clothing.
  2. Make that vision board that you didn't make in January or February.  ~ We have time to do it. If you made one, is it hanging up so that you see everyday? Your vision is only as good as you can see it. If it's hidden you can't see it. Do you know where you're going to. Do you like the things that life is showing you?
  3. Journal - Reflect on your childhood and answer these questions, "What did I want to be when I was little?" "Did that manifest?" "Why not?" "Now what?" "Am I doing what I was born to do?"
Use this time to do some self work. Someone is waiting for your gift. Do what you were born to do. Your dream is out there. Go get it.

Mindful Monday

I pray that your day has been peaceful.
I pray that all of your needs are met.
I pray that your family is doing well.

Don't forget that

Even in the midst of uncertainty, God is in control.
Even in the midst of crisis, He's right here.

If you need to, take moments to pause, to breathe and to feel this moment.
If tears began to fall
Just let them

In this moment
Be your truest
Most authentic self

Inhale
Exhale

We are going to get through this
When it's over,
We'll be different
We'll be better

We will be

More loving
More giving
More compassionate

You're not in this alone.
We are in this together.

Self-Care Saturdays

How are you? How was your day?

Today, self-care for me was reclining in a chair and reading a book. It was a peaceful moment in which I was kind to myself. Yes, you can be kind to yourself and you should be kind to yourself. This is a difficult time for us and it is also a gift to simply sit with yourself, to rest and to reset.

Whether it's a good book or a fashion magazine, grab a blanket, turn on the fireplace, if you have one, grab a cup of tea or hot chocolate and curl up and just be good to you.

Self-care takes work & you are worth working for.

Thankful Thursdays

It’s a #thankfulthursday❤️ What are you thankful for today?
Normally I write out 3 things I’m thankful for every day but here lately I can think of way more. God, I thank you for my family. I thank you for my older son who is the bomb dot com and has taken on leadership roles in our family with grace. I thank you for my younger son who is each day flourishing in his “new normal” of online learning and understanding that order brings about peace as we all try to “figure it out”.
God, I thank you for the comforting sounds of trains and beautiful spaces to just be. I promise you I have so much more to thank God for. He’ll bring about calm in chaos. #thatsawordrightthere
I encourage you to look for the good in these times.

Time is filled with swift transition,
Naught of earth unmoved can stand,
Build your hopes on things eternal,
Hold to God’s unchanging hand.
