A Day In My Classroom
Today in my classroom I was speaking to a student, who will be the second person in family to graduate from high school. We were discussing what he would wear on graduation day. I told him that on that day if he could do without wearing anything red would be nice, and different for him. He told me how his friends were all excited for him and wanted him to dress up.
We talked for a while about his two years in the program and I told him how proud I was of him for sticking in there and getting all of his credits. His response, "That's a first. Nobody has ever told me they were proud of me." It took everything in me to hold back the tears that flow at this moment.
It's been said before but as an educator you never know who you are teaching or the impact you are making on that child's life. I will definitely be in attendance to watch him walk across that stage.
