Not Cute Today...Update

The first person I see today says, "You look cute today." lol

In Memorial of Anita Thorpe

Over the years I met so many people. It is very rare that you meet a person who you do nothing but laugh and have fun with. I met that person working on the Hospitality Committee at church. Her name is Anita Thorpe.

Each time we would have a function she would always make fun of my kitchen skills, or lack there of. ;) It was always in good humor and I knew as soon as she showed up on Sunday morning we would be laughing and joking.

Today two daughters buried their mother, they were so poised and so beautiful this morning. I was really proud of them and praying for them. Ms. Anita did a wonderful job raising them.

I have come back to work in the kitchen for several other events but today was different. Today I knew for sure that I would not have those jokes and that laughter anymore. I held it together until I heard "Safe in His Arms" being sung during the service. I walked around the kitchen area trying to find something to do to stop the tears until I finally just stood and cried.

Anita is safe in the Master's Arms. We praise God for that and for years of wonderful memories.

Not Cute Today

You ever have one of "those" days? Where you just don't know if you care about how you look? Mine was today. Actually it has been all week. I love MAC make-up and I love my Model Model Romance Curl sew-in. Today the face was blank and the weave was pinned up. I don't know if it is the new moon, the temperature change, or what. I just know that I have no energy to "do" me.

Now since basketball season is over and the school year is coming to an end a lot of things are falling down on me. I did get divorced last year. I did end a relationship this year. I did make it to 99% of the basketball games. I did make sure the boys had their needs met. I did a lot of things but take care of me.

It seems as if since January 2007 I have gone non-stop so I would have to think about the separation, the divorce, the end of my marriage. I hear what you are saying before you say it. It may not have been a good marriage but it still was a marriage. Ending it was a difficult process. So to not think about it I have just kept going and going. Well, guess what? The Energizer Bunny is beyond tired from all the avoidance of it all.

Not only was it the marriage over the years, but it was the relationship, the mortgage, the gas and electric, the water, you name it. It was it. So now that I have some slow down time all of my brokenness is right before my eyes in plain sight. What I see ain't pretty at all. But you know what? I have to deal with that. Raising the boys. Keeping my house together. Keeping me together. Keeping me sane. Being single. Losing the weight. Getting my finances in order.

Today was hard. It had the same 24 hours as every other day, but today it was really hard. Last night our church began a women's bible study. We are studying Esther..It's tough to be a woman by Beth Moore. I never really realized how much I need to be in the company of other women. We laughed, we talked, we fellowshipped. I pray that the bible study group is a blessing to all of those who attend and that we really do the work that needs to be done.

For me personally,I pray that I get it together soon because I was not cute today.

Let Your Haters Be Your Motivators

Last week in my classroom the theme of our journal topics was 'Motivation" Here are some responses from last Wednesday's journal topic.

Explain the phrase "Let Your Haters Be Your Motivators."

You should let your haters make you better than what they make you seem like, and let them bring your name to life and make your name more popular than what you are. L.A

Let them fuel you to go farther in life. Let them be the fuel to your fire that ignites your engine. Let hatred encourage you not to give up but to keep going and also let that strengthen you instead of letting it tear you down. People that hate on you are jealous of you because Jesus Christ has blessed you and has favor on you because He cares. Whenever God gets too blessing the devil gets to messing. That is what I believe.D.S.

O My God Yes. The haters are everywhere. They are even in your presence. They can come out of the woods. But on the other hand they help me out a lot. Those creatures made me step it all the way up. D.C.

My haters can bring me down but my friends make me strong. M.S.

Let your enemy's push you toward your goal in life and as my father said "That which does not kill me makes me stronger." That is the way I live my life. W.M.

Step My Game Up

The month of April has truly been amazing for me. This last week, in particular, has truly shown me how faithful God is to me when I completely turn over my adversities to Him. I don't really think I knew how deep the hurt was in my life and in my heart but God is a healer. Not only does He heal but He also restores.

Now that April has presented all things anew I have made a personal decision. I have decided to step my game up. Over the past four years I have endured so much heartache and disappointment. I was just getting up everyday and going through the motions. Now I get up with a purpose. God's purpose. He has blessed me with opportunities to impact children and their families throughout my community. I have a responsibility to uphold. To whom much is given much is required. He has given me so much.

Recently at my church's anniversary the guest minister shared this thought "We all are valuable, none of us are necessary." I know that I am valuable in my various talents and gifts but I also know that if I don't use those gifts and talents someone else will.

My time is now, to be at my best, professionally, spiritually, physically, emotionally, and financially. Enough has time been spent being comfortable. The time is now to show my value and worth to the world.

I invite you to watch me soar as I Step My Game UP!!!!!!

It Already Is

Yesterday I ran into a young lady that I have known for a little over six years. She spotted me driving down a street and walked a block to where I parked to say hello to me. We sat, while I waited for my son's practice to end, and talked about her life. She had a newborn son and had recently moved into the area. She was very upbeat about the course her life was going. She was in a relationship that she was happy about. Her income would be picking up soon, she hoped to have a new apartment and a new school for her older son to attend.

As she sat and told her story I was wondering if she knew that life had more to offer her than what she wanted. So after listening to her for nearly 10 minutes I asked the question "What is the plan for your life?" Her response threw me for a loop. She stated, "It already is." That told me that she wasn't going to strive for anything more than what she had and that was cool for her. It wasn't cool for me. It's not cool for me.

Each day that I wake up I hope that I am impacting some young person to want more for their lives and for their children's lives. I teach my sons to dream big and to desire the best. I bring that very thought process into my classroom. Whether in my lesson plans or my famous "lectures" I want young people to see beyond their present circumstances and believe that they can be successful achievers.

I strive for that each day.

Today I Decide

What a wonderful day today has been. I think this wonderful feeling began on Saturday as I eagerly anticipated seeing Fred Hammond in concert at the Health Expo. All morning I was wired and ready for the day to begin at six in the morning. On my way there I was shocked as I looked into the eyes of the past and realized that the pain was no longer there, nor were the tears. I was able to look into those eyes and say I am okay and I hope you are too.

Since that moment I have felt a sense of upliftment like a load was released from me. I can't even tell you about all of the blessing that have fallen on my home this week. There is a song that contains lyrics stating, "I just can't tell it all." I will say that the surprise of the day was when my older son told me that he won 3rd place in baking contest, of 30 contestants. Wow! I really didn't expect that.

Today I decide to expect the unexpected. I decide to increase my expectations of myself and others. I decide to no longer trust my heart to anyone who is not trustworthy. I decide to release that which does not belong to me and to expect God's best for me.

What will you decide today?
